Mountain City Aviation School
Mountain City Aviation is located in Southern Manitoba at Morden Regional Airport. The airport has 4 runways: 28/10 which is a 4000 foot long, hard surfaced runway and runway 35/17 which is turf. This airport is ideal for flight training in many ways...At Mountain City Aviation we have an airport which is perfect training for soft field, short field and cross-wind landings and take-offs. We don’t simulate a grass landing, you actually do it! As this airport only has the one school and none within a 40 minute flight, there is no waiting for take off and since our training area begins as soon as you’re airborne, all of this will result in savings for you.MCA’s MandateAbout the CFI: Hi! My name is Lance Appleford and I am the CFI for Mountain City Aviation. I have been involved in aviation since 1999 when I got my PPL. I know how tough flight training can be as I have gone through it all myself. I have found that a lot of flight schools are only concerned about their financial situation and have treated their students not like customers but like second class people. I have also found that the instructors are more concerned about the hours they are accumulating than about how well they are teaching their students. In fact, from PPL to CPL I had 7 different instructors, many of whom wanted to re-teach flight exercises. This lack of continuity of my training cost me more money than if I had had only one instructor. About MCA:At Mountain City Aviation, we are a small family knit group of professionals who put students at the top of our priorities and make sure that they walk away from here knowing that they got the best education possible. You will not be switched from instructor to instructor, you will not be treated with disrespect, you will be treated like the extremely valuable customers you are. At many flight schools around Canada in high volume traffic areas, your expensive flight hours will be poorly gained with times of 0.3 or more on the ground, and transit times out to the training areas and back taking as much as another 0.7. The beauty of training at Morden Regional Airport is that we are the only flight school for miles around, holding short waiting for traffic to land is virtually unheard of, and our training areas, merely minutes away will only be occupied by us. That means a world of difference when every 0.1 hour means another 12-14 dollars spent. About English for Pilots:If you are an international student wishing to do their flight training here, but you are worried about your English speaking and listening ability, never fear. Not only am I a flight training professional, but I am also an ESL teacher and have over 14 years experience teaching in Korea, Taiwan, China, Africa and Canada. I also have an English for Pilots ground school course which will help you attain an ICAO English level 4 or higher with lessons in Aviation listening, speaking and pronunciation.
